Letter from Vitaly’s mother.
My son Vitaly Volodin is 13. Earlier this year he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). He was treated in Kazan Regional Hospital (Republic of Tatarstan). During his stay in the hospital he also suffered from various treatment side-effects, mostly stomatitis. He also had his appendix removed and diagnozed with gastitis.
He is now declared in remission and is back home. We are immensely grateful to the doctors for saving his life but we’re only half-way through.
We live in Nizhnekamsk – a town in the South-West of Russia. My husband, Vitaly’s step-father, only makes 10-12 thousand rubles a month. I can’t work at the moment – soon after Vitaly was diagnozed I gave birth to a wonderful baby-girl and have to stay home with her. I also get some social payments for Vitaly’s deceased father and for my daughter, which amounts to another 6 thousand rubles. But we need to spend a whole lot of money to keep Vitaly going – medicine which he’ll need to take for another several years, hygienic stuff to keep the house sterile since his immune system is destroyed by chemotherapy, etc, etc, etc. Each month it totals 70-80 thousand rubles.
Before the dreadful diagnosis, my son played ice-hockey for Nizhnekamsk team. Our big hockey family – parents and coaches – do all they can to help us but unfortunately their funds are also limited.
We're asking for your help to save our son.
Olga Danilova, Vitaly’s mother
